Abstract
Future communication devices will have to operate over heterogeneous wireless networks and standards around the world. The dream of a ubiquitous device that provides unhindered connectivity any where at any time is becoming a reality, thanks to the rapid convergence of Computing and communication devices. The emergence of universal mobile devices that encompass computing, communications, entertainment and sensing capabilities will enable the delivery of proactive and context aware applications to highly mobile end-users. However, network heterogeneity brings with it enormous challenges in the design of these mobile devices. This talk will elaborate on the vision, the attributes and technical challenges of future communication systems. In particular advancement of RF component technologies to meet the challenges of the small form factor devices will be described.
