Abstract :
Experimental data from polarimetric radars show, that in some cases the backscattering matrix (BSM) of natural objects does not obey the reciprocity theorem and is not symmetrical. Media, for which the effective backscattering volume is described by an asymmetrical operator, are called non-reciprocal. Achievements in modern radar allow the quasi-simultaneous estimation of all BSM elements in mono-static radar, within a time frame of one radiated waveform only. At the same time, it gives the opportunity to avoid erroneous estimation of BSM asymmetry, which can appear in sequential BSM estimation of non-stable or moving targets. Some theoretical and experimental results of electromagnetic wave hackscattering as well as the proof of possible detection principle of non-reciprocal targets are also presented in the paper.
