Abstract
The concept of a distributed ad-hoc multi-hop communication networks is relevant to a wide variety of situations. Although usually associated with the military, they are of value in any situation in which it is not possible to rely on fixed stations. This work seeks to develop an appropriate routing algorithm for a proposed ad-hoc network that provides mobile communication in a marine environment. Like algorithms based on swarm intelligence, this algorithm is inspired by the foraging activity of insect predators. The proposed application has been made possible by the inclusion of a digital channel in the marine communication equipment.
