Abstract
This paper presents a new concept of the knowledge management framework for sharing technical know-how in an engineering community, in which latent connections among technical keywords are utilized to search some work reports for reference. The framework is composed of two different semantic networks with spreading activation mechanisms: the query extension network and the query suggestion network. Each of them represents a different aspect of connections among words. The former network is intended to extend the search for a user´s query through its periphery based upon the associations of words in their work domain ontology. The latter is leveraged to present the users with other possible keywords for their next queries, which might help their exploration advance to what they want. The interaction of both functions through search activities by individual users is expected to provide effective navigations for their data explorations in the forest of expertise.
