  • Abstract
The application of genetic-search algorithm (GA) techniques to the problem of overloaded arrays, in which the number of incoming signals exceeds the array size, is proposed. A receiver that can achieve nearly optimal performance, but requiring significantly less complexity than the maximum likelihood joint detection receiver, is described. The new approach combines adaptive filtering with GA techniques; it is shown that GAs can provide good performance in an overloaded system by using a priori information from the spatial filter. Implementation issues such as the trade-offs between the population size and the number of generations are discussed, and simulation results demonstrate the impact of these parameters on the algorithm´s performance.
