Abstract :
This paper presents the description of multipath fading channels based on fractal theory. A novel channel estimation scheme is presented for the wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) system by using fractal interpolation between the instantaneous channel estimation of two successive slots. It is demonstrated by computer simulations that the proposed method can estimate the channel parameters more accurately, and the performance of the RAKE receiver is improved especially at high and varying vehicular speeds. The results also show that the fractal model can describe multipath fading more effectively compared to the conventional statistical models.
