Abstract
Interaction between road users during road crossing involves decision-making and prediction of future states of the scene. To predict cooperation and competition of the temporary limited road space a dynamic driver decision model is needed. The paper discusses existing decision models and the first steps towards the definition and implementation of a new model. The model is based on a cognitive architecture containing fuzzy rules. A cognitive model represents the learning and adaptation of the driver to generic and specific characteristics of a road crossing. These road crossing characteristics include the presence of so-called (traffic and safety) barriers: traffic rules and symbols that need to be obeyed.
