Abstract
In this paper, extensions of wireless LAN technology needed to support transportation safety applications and general multimedia to the car are introduced. Based on the collection of IEEE 802.11 protocols, the proposed standard specifies additional requirements associated with the vehicular environment. Through simulations, the capacity of roadside to vehicle communications and vehicle to vehicle communications is examined.
