Abstract
The expansion of international investment has led to an increase of transnational company research and development (R&D) activities in emerging markets. China seems to become a serious competitor for India as an off-shore R&D location. But success of foreign R&D activities in China greatly depends on a realistic estimation of the country´s advantages and a proper identification and handling of barriers.
