Abstract :
We proposed a four-stage technology venture model and defined five strategic resources trying to understand how resources accumulated during different stages of technology venturing. This work is intent to link resource based view and technology venture theory in order to better explain the resource accumulation dynamics while venturing. Resource-based view, by its fruitful philosophy in examining and explaining the varieties of resource dimensions, has been so far a popular strategy theory. Yet, there is still a knowledge gap between resource based view and technology venture. In the past, studies of surviving and successful ventures had made significant contributions to literatures and facilitate our understanding of ventures. Nevertheless, the answers to some questions remain unsettled, such as: "what are the critical resources that make ventures successful, at different stage of venturing." "how these resources accumulated and how they formed as the core competency for a venture to be growing?" "For different types of strategic resources, are there different dynamic changing patterns existing?".., etc. In order to make progress in explaining venture performance, a stage model is set and applied an event-based method to explain the relationships between resources and performance. After examining cases, it was found that an unbalanced resource score may exist along with those successful companies. We finally established a prototype of diagnostic tool which we intent to be used to help predict a new venture\´s potential performance.
