Abstract :
The Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) has recently attracted more and more research attentions since it could be a perfect candidate for next generation access networks. Supporting differentiated services in EPONs is an important issue for service providers to design an EPON system. We have proposed a multiple access control scheme to provide a solution to efficiently share the upstream of an EPON among multiple users. In this paper, we further deploy the efficient multiple access scheme and combine it with a two-stage queuing scheme to provide differentiated services in EPONs. The simulation results show that the combined scheme can effectively provide differentiated services for different classes of traffic.
