Abstract
The transistor-level design of a CMOS receiver for optical communications is presented. Transient as well as AC simulations show it converts very low 600 Mb/s photocurrent signals (7 μA) into output voltage signals of 3.3 V. It ensures DC photocurrent rejection and can operate in two modes, depending on whether there is data transmission or not. The power consumption never exceeds 200 mW. The circuit is fully composed with CMOS inverters and passive components. Its area is around 190 μm × 160 μm.
