Abstract
In this paper, two wideband parametric speech coders are presented - the wideband LP and wideband sinusoidal speech coders. The wideband LP coder uses the split-band approach: a standard MELP coder is used for the low frequency band and the high frequency band is modeled as a noise-excited LP filter. The wideband sinusoidal coder is developed from the sinusoidal representation of speech. Different configurations of the speech coders were generated by varying the model parameters and the bit allocations for each parameter. Informal listening tests show that the wideband LP coder and the wideband sinusoidal speech coder are capable of producing speech with acceptable quality at bit rates of 3.2 kbps and 7.5 kbps respectively.
