Abstract :
Since a sound field reproduction system based on wavefield synthesis usually needs a great number of channel signals, the amount of data transmitted should be reduced. This paper therefore proposes a spatial coding method that is based on the extraction of moving sound sources and reduces the amount of data transmitted from an amount proportional to the number of channels to an amount proportional to the number of sound sources. A coding experiment was performed for a reverberant sound field which was simulated with an image method. The effect of the proposed method on the perceptual quality was evaluated by subjective assessment.
