Abstract
An on line fault detection scheme for a multi-machine power system is introduced in this paper. The detection approach is based on the idea of decoupling the fault signal from the state and output measurements through coordinate transformations. Once the decoupling process is achieved, the fault signals are treated as unknown inputs and then estimated through the use of observer theory. The proposed scheme is applied to a multi-machine power system. The common case of a fault occurring on a transmission line is illustrated.
