Abstract :
This work proposed a differentiated object priority control (DOPC) mechanism for MPEG-4 streaming. The DOPC mechanism is based on the standard MPEG-4 DMIF architecture and combines object priority, layer adaptation, and TFRC congestion control schemes. The DOPC mechanism achieves dynamical rate control of media objects to optimize an MPEG-4 streaming transmission according to user QoS requirements. The fundamental control procedure of DOPC is to monitor the status of mobile network traffic and accordingly assign the object priorities and object properties to achieve the layer adaptation control. The adaptation mechanism of DOPC provides: (i) the quality switch control; (ii) the add/drop control for media objects; and (iii) the adaptation streaming control.
