  • Abstract
Now, the design of embedded systems presents new challenges. Such systems are more and more complex with increased multimedia functionalities. Although, such power-greedy systems are battery-operated, they must be adaptive to the external environment fluctuations and especially they have to integrate energy saving strategies. In this paper, we present experimental results used for the validation of an approach for the design of a power aware media processor. Our power-saving approach is based on the progressive degradation in the multimedia quality application (QoS) to achieve energy constraints. It includes two adaptation levels. The first one is the algorithmic level that is related to the application QoS sensitive parameters. The second one is the architectural level that is related to various implementations of a media algorithm. Experiments are made on a 3D application using the generic media processor architecture.
