  • Abstract
The majority of operators are likely to deploy indoor solutions on the same RF carrier as the macrocell layer. Doing so avoids the requirement for a dedicated carrier and also avoids the requirement for hard handovers. The paper outlines some of the radio network planning guidelines which are associated with designing and deploying an indoor solution on the same RF carrier as the macrocell layer. The paper then focuses on soft handover performance. A theoretical analysis is presented prior to a set of field trial results. The paper concludes by emphasizing the importance of accounting for cochannel macrocells during the design and acceptance of an indoor solution.
