  • Abstract
The paper develops methods of characterizing telephone network topology using a small number of internal network sensors. Using methods inspired by medical imaging, telephone call attempts made from many locations around the world provide the measurements. The ability to determine the topology of worldwide telephone networks offers the promise of substantially improving their operating efficiency. This approach can be extended to determine characteristics of data networks as well.
