Abstract
The electrostatic field is an attractive external force model for snakes (active contour). In this paper, a novel approach is proposed to solve the infinite problem induced by using the formula of the electric field intensity. By constructing a template plane above the original image plane, the electrostatic field computed on this template is used for the external force. The favorite features of this vector field are studied. The experiments show that this model is capable of segmenting medical images having high noise and large gaps.
