Abstract :
The electrooculogram (EOG) is a useful method for the clinical diagnosis of the retinitis pigmentosa and Best disease in the field of electrophysiology. The EOGs detected as the potentials between two electrodes pasted on the inner canthus and outer canthus have been used for the conventional tests in clinic. In this study, we attempted to analyze EOG in detail by measuring the potentials from each skin electrode pasted around the eyes, instead of conventional methods measuring the potentials between the inner and outer canthus. As a result, it was cleared that the inner canthus potentials were in opposite phase to the outer canthus and that the outer canthus potentials were larger than the inner canthus potentials. On the other hand, in case of the enucleation of the right eye, the inner and outer potentials of the right artificial eye were in-phase with the inner canthus potentials of the left normal eye and they decreased according to the distance from the left eye. Above-mentioned results give us the new aspects for detailed analysis of EOG.
