Abstract :
An enhanced Colpitts oscillator is outlined which is a combination of a Colpitts and a balance oscillator. It has a lower current consumption and a larger tuning range than the conventional Colpitts. A wide tuning range version for TV tuners is presented. The circuit has been realised in a 5 GHz BiCMOS process. The tuning range is 500 - 900 MHz and the measured side band noise density is better than -108 dBc@100 kHz over that range.
