Abstract :
The need for LSI in high-performance applications is obvious, since the performance of a logic circuit is defined as that achievable in a machine environment. Performance includes circuit, loading, and wire delays. These three components of delay must be addressed at the device, circuit design, and packaging levels in order to realize an optimum system. An example of each of these interactions is described. In addition, reference will be made to how such design considerations presently limit the availability of LSI for high speed computers.
