Abstract :
Over the past seven years, a number of E.S.F. Klystrons have been developed for a variety of radar applications. The tubes are in S- and L-bands and cover a peak power range of 2 to 100 kW, a mean power range of 200 W to 10 kW, and micro-perveances ranging from 0.5 to 1.0. The principle of advantage of the E.S.F. klystron it is light weight because no focussing magnetic field is required and this is particularly advantageous in large klystrons in the lower frequency ranges. There are some disadvantages, too, when a comparison is made with a magnetically the same gain-bandwith product.
