Abstract
Adaptive impedance matching is an attractive option to extend the operational bandwidth of a mobile phone antenna system beyond the limits set by available antenna and device volume and, moreover, to adapt to varying near field environment. Theoretical and experimental results on the attainable improvement in power transfer and on compliance with the tough linearity requirements of mobile phone standards, questions which are central to the assessment of feasibility in product applications are reported.
