Abstract
A number of spatio-temporal data models have been proposed in the geographic information system (GIS) since Langran (USA 1989). Most of them are general models. So very few have been actually implemented without considering the specific application domain. Cadastral information system (CIS) is a typical temporal geographic system (TGIS). Besides the general problems in TGIS, there are many difficulties in the research on CIS such as data redundancy, low query efficiency and the relationship problem between the father parcel and the son parcel. A spatio-temporal data model based on the parcel is proposed to overcome above problems in this paper. This model is directed by base state with amendments (BSA) and the unique aspects of the cadastral data. The basic entities in the cadastral such as the boundary point, the boundary line and the land parcel are analyzed. Furthermore, the parcel is the primary object studied. Temporal and spatial attributes can be concentrated on the parcel object. BSA is extended to decrease the data redundancy greatly. And for the purpose of improving the query efficiency, a data structure with a linked list is introduced in the database designing. In the end a rudimentary CIS is developed for the implementation of the proposed data model. It emphasizes the capability of dealing with the tracing of the land parcel and the query between the father parcel and the son parcel. These functionalities will be developed with VB6.0 and combined through dynamic linked library with Oracle9i. This model and the prototype will make an offer of help for the future study in CIS.
