Abstract :
An ant colony optimization (ACO) based multiuser detector assisted with a spatial diversity reception in direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) is proposed. This detector combines features of joint detection and collective intelligence of ants can offer almost the same bit (BER) performance as the optimum full-search-based multiuser detector does while it can greatly reduced the computational complexity. Furthermore, the near-far resistance of the ACO-based multiuser detector is also examined. The BER performance for k = 20 remains almost the same, even when the interfering users´ energy is 10dB higher, than that of the desired user.
