Abstract :
Since cooperative diversity could potentially increase system capacity and energy efficiency, it has become more and more attractive recently. This paper incorporates cooperative transmission into route selection in wireless ad hoc networks and investigates the effect of cooperative routing node selection strategies on system performance (here refers to total energy consumption). Simulation results show that with cooperative diversity incorporated in routing selection schemes, both power-based and physical distance-based strategies could save power compared with simple multi-hop cases. Furthermore, the more nodes are allowed to participate in cooperation, the more energy could be saved. On the other hand, compared with their corresponding multi-hop cases, cooperative algorithms based on distance could save more power than those based on power. This is due to the fact that the former has more improvement space than the latter.
