Abstract
The combination of adaptive space-time coding at physical layer and truncated automatic repeat request at data link layer is considered in this paper. Three types of space-time code are analysed in the paper: V-BLAST, QOSTBC, and STBC. Furthermore, we deduce the approximate expression of packet error rate based on space-time code and propose a novel adaptive transmission scheme. Numerical results reveal that the joint design of space-time coding and truncated ARQ can achieve considerable spectral efficiency gain. By properly choosing the number of retransmissions, we can get a good tradeoff between delay and spectral efficiency.
