Abstract
The bit error rate (BER) of ultra-wideband (UWB) impulse communication system may vary significantly with the reception direction due to the angle-dependent pulse distortion in UWB radiation. UWB system with aperture antenna of uniform tangent electric field distribution suffers more system degradation than those with linearly- tapered distribution or Gaussian distribution. For UWB impulse system with serious pulse distortion, proper design of the temperate pulse waveform improves effectively the system performance.
