Abstract :
Electromagnetically-induced transparency is shown to exhibit transient pulsations in active upconversion solids. Density matrix solutions predict that an avalanche upconversion laser assisted by EIT can be self-starting under certain conditions. We examine prospects for high power operation in Tm:LiYF4.
