  • Abstract
A new design of multilayer patch antenna has been investigated. The antenna includes a metallic periodic structure inside a high permittivity substrate to achieve multifrequency operation. The effect of the size, period and number of metallic elements on the antenna frequency behavior has been studied. From this study, it is concluded that the parameter that most affects frequency behavior is the periodic element size. Also, the number of periodic elements can be reduced to those placed only in the antenna resonant side. The possibility of combining this new structure with the classical stacked patches technique has been demonstrated, giving more antenna work frequencies.
