Abstract :
This paper presents an ultra wideband (UWB) planar teardrop dipole antenna (PTDiA) with an operating bandwidth (VSWR < 2) of 3.0 GHz and antenna input impedance of 50-Ω. The PTDiA antenna is optimized using elliptical slots improving both the impedance bandwidth and input impedance of the antenna. Radiation characteristics and gains are also examined. The numerical characterization of the antenna is done using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) technique.
