Abstract :
The received signals of the spaced antennas from atmosphere are nonstationary and nonlinear random processes. An approach is presented in this paper to measure wind fields with the cumulant of radar signal increment for the best estimates of real wind fields. We can get mean horizontal wind speed and turbulence characteristics of the scattering medium with zero-lag increment cumulant. It is shown that the approach can be adaptable to locally random fields by theoretical analysis and simulations. It is also concluded that the estimate of the mean horizontal speed is not very sensitive to the size of spaced antennas. The high-order cumulant of increment are proposed to remove Gaussian noise and get high order estimations of turbulence characteristics, which cannot be obtained from the general 2nd order methods.
