Abstract
PWTD (plane wave time domain) formulations that arise from nonuniform and uniform sampling of transient plane wave patterns are presented and their advantages and disadvantages discussed. In addition, a hybrid scheme that optimally leverages the advantages of both sampling schemes across PWTD levels within a multilevel framework is presented. This hybrid scheme is argued to be especially suitable for parallel implementation. The accuracy of the proposed hybrid scheme is verified by a numerical example.
