Abstract :
The possibility of designing a gravitationally balanced back-to-back reflector is explored. It is shown that a class of tri-mode matched feeds can be utilized to lower the cross polarization level. Using trimode horns with optimized amplitude mode coefficients, the performance of the reflector is simulated to verify the effectiveness of this method. In addition, a simulation was performed to evaluate the level of cross polarization for the scenario in which the feed is displaced from the focus.
