Abstract
A novel patch antenna, protruded and bent over the edge of the ground plane, is presented. It provides an almost omnidirectional radiation pattern and strongly enhanced bandwidth. It has been developed for wireless applications in laptop computers. An antenna prototype for the UMTS standard has been fabricated and tested. Good agreement has been obtained between numerical simulations and experimental results.
