Abstract :
Simple empirical formulas for the calculation of the imaginary part of the forward scattering amplitude of a plane electromagnetic wave by Pruppacher-Pitter raindrops are proposed. These expressions are employed and an analytical method to evaluate the rain attenuation exceeding probability over a point-to-point link is presented. The derived exceeding probabilities are compared with experimental data from ITU-R databank with encouraging results.
