Abstract
In this paper, we propose a hybrid RNN/HMM system for protein secondary structure prediction, where each secondary structure segment is approximated by a second-order recurrent neural network embedded in the state of a segmental hidden Markov model. We evaluate the hybrid system on the RS126 and CB396 sets and obtain promising results.
