Abstract
In this paper, a new technique for reducing the blocking effect has been presented. This technique can be applied to different types of partitioning schemes. In the proposed technique, the pixels near a horizontal (vertical) block border are modified to make them similar to those on a horizontal (vertical) line within the block in close proximity to the border, which are not affected by the blocking artifacts. Simulation conducted on several test video sequences has demonstrated that the proposed technique can reduce the prediction error and improve the subjective visual quality of a frame in comparison to the results obtained by using the generalized overlapped motion compensation scheme.
