Abstract
Coming new generation of communication systems solving interoperability problem between systems operating in different frequency bands and using different standards is the subject of this paper. The paper explains what type of fundamental features SDR products must possess to function as true software radio (TSR). It will examine the evolutionary path of such products from software assisted radios (SAR) which are hybrid in nature utilizing signal processing in analog as well as in digital form to true software radio systems. The latter, exemplified by TechnoConcepts Inc´s. TSR system, an industry first, provides conversion of received signals into its digital equivalent immediately after antenna. Followed digital signal processing with the use of dynamically downloadable software according to a specific standard corresponding to the received signal type makes these systems frequency agile as well as protocol independent.
