Abstract :
The thermal effect of the transient magnetic field in a transmission line is considered. The system consists of two copper conductors with equal but opposite currents in the free space. A plane-parallel model is considered both for the magnetic field and for the thermal field. The problem is described by a coupled set of equations. The equations are coupled because most of the heat sources are the effects of the eddy-currents induced in the conductors and the material properties are temperature-dependent. In our target example, the coupling between the two fields is the heat source. The scope of this paper is to present some computational aspects in simulation of coupled magnetic field and heat dissipation problem in conductors. The numerical model is based on the finite element method.
