Title :
Challenges and opportunities in AMP4 [water supply industry]
Author_Institution :
RWE Thames Water, UK
Abstract :
This is a powerpoint presentation on the challenges and opportunities in AMP4 in Thames Water. Investment has been dominated by water quality and environmental improvements since the privatisation of RWE Thames Water in 1989. The balance for investment priorities include: renewing ageing water mains and sewers; reducing the number of households at risk from sewer flooding; minimising odours from sewage treatment works; investing in planning sustainable new water resources; and complying with EU legislation. The Thames Water AMP4 capital programme is up c20% on AMP3. However, since skills and competence of the workforce and those of industry partners is vital to achieving its priorities, there is concern over the ability to resource and retain experienced water industry operatives and technicians. Automation and control systems and information integration with IT systems are also major concerns of Thames Water.
