Abstract
A position sensorless method for switched reluctance motors (SRMs) using an active phase inductance are described. SRM can be controlled without external position sensors by changing the active phase when the gradient of the active phase inductance is zero at low speeds. As the speed increases, the sensorless drive can be performed using the difference between the maximum inductance and the inductance calculated every sampling at medium speeds. When the speed is higher, the sensorless drive can be carried out by the significant overlap between the phases.
