A case study into providing the Bowman platform-BISA HCI

This paper describes the systems engineering work carried out by General Dynamics UK Limited to develop and deliver the platform battlefield information systems application (PBISA) human computer interface (HCI). To set the scene a brief overview of the Bowman programme and system is given with a description of how the PBISA application fits within it. The components that make up the PBISA man machine interface (MMI) are then described. Of particular interest are some of the design constraints that this work has had to consider and how these have been addressed. A discussion of the design methods and processes used with the rationale for their selection and use is presented. Finally, with the wider engineering community in mind, some of the lessons learnt through this programme are discussed. It should be noted that to enable publication, information in some areas has necessarily been edited.
