Abstract
This panel position paper discusses issues and challenges in situation assessment (SA) with focus on a human perceptual-reasoning-based model framework. Starting with the review of definitions and proposed models of SA, and human thinking, the constructs of a perceptual-reasoning-machine-based SA system are presented. Knowledge bases associated with each component of the system are identified. Approaches and issues of knowledge acquisition, representation and reasoning are discussed.
