Abstract :
This paper concerns image reconstruction for helical cone-beam (CB) single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) with compensation of non-uniform attenuation. We present a filtering-backprojection-filtering algorithm of the FDK type by extending the FBP algorithms for attenuated fan-beam projections to the three-dimensional (3D) cone-beam projections. Each transaxial slice can be reconstructed from attenuated projection data acquired along a specific 2π segment of the helix. CB artifacts are less for smaller pitch of the helical trajectory. The algorithm is validated by numerical results for a simulated Shepp-Logan-like phantom and the Defrise phantom.
