    Automatic, simultaneous compensation of both PMD and chromatic dispersion in a 44times43 Gbit/s transmission experiment over 6times100 km high-PMD SMF is demonstrated for the first time. Longer-term experiments as well as WDM channel evaluations show effective compensation performance
