Abstract :
The independent adjustment of the amplitude and phase through digital or analog control is realized in the proposed novel ultra-wide-band (UWB) vector modulator operating in the bandwidth of 4-16GHz. Under digital control, the step size is 2dB with 32 steps for amplitude and 11.25° with 32 steps for phase. Under analog control, the dynamic range is 80dB for amplitude and 360° for phase. The modulator is composed of several chips which are assembled on a carrier with the size of less than 4.8mm by 3.8mm. Both the input and the output are 50Ω coplanar waveguides. The measurement results show the good performance of this modulator.
