Abstract
At the end of 2005 the installed generation capacity of 500 GW makes China the second highest in the electricity production in the world. As China is being transformed into the manufacturing centre of the world, the increase of electricity demand is tremendous. New electric energy infrastructure is required to transfer bulk electricity energy over a very long distance. Although the 500 kV AC and 500-kV DC transmission systems are existing, such transmission networks are still considered to be inadequate for bulk electricity energy transmission.
